Looking for something adventurous, educational, and absolutely unforgettable for your child? Kilkee Waterworld is thrilled to launch our brand-new Club – a weekly 8-week programme packed with lifesaving skills, snorkelling fun, and marine exploration, running from May 8th for 8 weeks!

Designed for ages 10–15 with solid swimming ability and lifesaving skills, this club is ideal for young water enthusiasts ready to level up and be mentored by experienced tutors.

🌊 What’s Included?

Each week, participants will:

  • Advance through Irish Water Safety Level
  • Practice real-world rescue techniques and CPR basics
  • Learn the principles of snorkelling including H&S aspects in the Pool 
  • Have a taster of scuba with a safe underwater breathing taster dive in the pool
  • Explore local marine life through interactive talks and fun facts
  • Build teamwork, leadership, and water confidence

🧭 Programme Overview

This club is designed to level-up junior lifeguards with advanced rescue skills, confidence underwater, and knowledge of the marine environment. With snorkel and scuba taster training in the pool, teamwork drills, real rescue scenarios, and a final sea snorkel, it’s the perfect mix of safety, adventure, and marine education.

📅 Week-by-Week Breakdown

Week 1 – Water Warriors Kickoff (May 8)

Icebreaker relay & swim assessment
Review key rescue principles (reach, throw, go)
Deep-water entries: kneel & stride jump
Intro to snorkelling gear & safe use
Talk: “What’s in the Water?” – Intro to local marine life
Outcome: Familiar with snorkel gear and entry skills

Week 2 – Rescue Ready (May 15)

Paired rescues using floats & rescue tubes
Communication & teamwork in the pool
Underwater swim challenge with retrieval
Snorkel drill #1: breathing and surface swims
Talk: “The Buddy System – Why It Saves Lives”
Outcome: Completes assisted tow, basic snorkel swim

Week 3 – Scene Leader (May 22)

Simulated rescues: weak swimmer, panicked swimmer
Victim management in shallow water
Snorkel drill #2: surface diving & underwater navigation
Emergency scenario planning (phone, whistle, radio)
Talk: “How Lifeguards Think – Scanning & Prioritising”
Outcome: Lead role in rescue scenario

Week 4 – Dive into Breathing Underwater (May 29)

Pool taster session: underwater breathing intro using safe dive kit with instructor supervision (not full SCUBA – just shallow dive breathing practice)
CPR basics: intro to chest compressions on manikin
Snorkel drill #3: swim-through obstacles
Talk: “The Ocean’s Lungs – Why Clean Seas Matter”
Outcome: Taster dive completed, understands CPR principles

Week 5 – Leadership in Action (June 5)

Team rescue relays with timed swims
Rescues from depth: surface dives & victim recovery
Snorkel drill #4: navigation challenges (collect items, underwater direction change)
Talk: “Our Sea Creatures – Friend or Foe?” (jellies, crabs, rays)
Outcome: Leads team, shows good judgment in rescue

Week 6 – CPR & First Aid Challenge (June 12)

CPR and recovery position full drill
Simulated emergency scene: assign roles & respond
Water entries in gear (t-shirt, shorts)
Snorkel fitness swim: long-distance practice
Talk: “The Pier & Open Water – Risks and Rules”
Outcome: Performs CPR confidently and leads an emergency response

Week 7 – Open Water Prep + Mock Rescue (June 19)

Dry run: practice pier rescue on dry land (with equipment)
Full mock rescue challenge (team-based, assessed)
Snorkel test swim in pool – navigation & endurance
Sea kit briefing: how to prep for cold, waves, wildlife
Talk: “Wildlife Spotting & Tide Safety for Snorkellers”
Outcome: Fully prepared for open-water snorkel

Week 8 – 🌊 SEA SNORKEL & CLUB WRAP-UP (June 26)

Guided snorkel off Kilkee Pier (weather permitting)
Marine species ID challenge (tick what you spot!)
Post-snorkel safety debrief & celebration
Certificates for Level 4 and 5 achievements
Bonus awards: “Team Leader”, “Best Rescue”, “Top Marine ID”
Outcome: Completes first sea snorkel, applies all learned skills

🐠 Additional Notes
Snorkelling and Dive equipment provided – students may bring their own mask/snorkel if preferred
Taster dive will be done in the pool with full qualified master diver instruction
