A family attraction, a seasonal community hub, and a warm West Clare welcome

Our Story

Kilkee Waterworld is a family-friendly aquatic centre and visitor attraction on the Wild Atlantic Way, welcoming locals and tourists from Ireland and around the world.

We operate seasonally from April to August, when Kilkee and West Clare come to life. For visitors, we’re a holiday highlight — a place to splash, slide and relax together, whatever the weather. For our local community, we’re a much-loved seasonal hub for swimming, learning, wellbeing and connection.

But above all, Kilkee Waterworld is about people.

A must-visit family attraction in Kilkee

For families visiting West Clare, Kilkee Waterworld is a favourite stop — especially during our Public Swim sessions, when the pool comes fully to life.

Visitors love:

  • Our 61-metre waterslide
  • The lazy river
  • The bubble pool and children’s pool
  • Warm water and walk-in, graded entry
  • Views across Kilkee Beach

It’s welcoming, weather-proof and ideal for families — making it a perfect addition to a day exploring Kilkee, the Loop Head Peninsula and the wider Wild Atlantic Way.

For many holidaymakers, a swim at Kilkee Waterworld becomes a tradition they return to year after year.

Welcomed by the people of West Clare

What truly sets Kilkee Waterworld apart is that we are run by the people of West Clare.

Many of the people welcoming you today first learned to swim here as children. That shared history brings a genuine warmth to everything we do — from the friendly greeting at the desk to the care taken on poolside.

Our team reflects the place we come from: grounded, open, proud of our home, and always happy to engage, chat and share local knowledge with visitors. We believe that visiting West Clare is as much about the people and pride of place as it is about the landscape.

Built on people and progression

All of our lifeguards are also qualified swim instructors, and over 90% of our current team have progressed through Kilkee Waterworld’s own programmes — starting as swimmers, moving through lessons, camps and Junior Lifeguard programmes, and continuing into qualification and employment.

Because many of our team grew up swimming here, they understand both the community and coastal nature of Kilkee, and the importance of water safety in a place shaped by the Atlantic.

From first splash to future pathways

Many young people first experience Kilkee Waterworld through a family swim, a school swimming visit, or a summer swim camp. From there, they may progress through group lessons, one-to-one coaching, and our Junior Lifeguard programmes, building confidence and skill step by step.

From age 16+, eligible candidates can move into formal pool lifeguard training delivered at Kilkee Waterworld, with opportunities for qualification and employment depending on ability and readiness.

For some, that journey goes even further.

Real outcomes, rooted in place

Kilkee Waterworld works closely with local water-based activity providers and clubs, including the sub aqua community, to offer taster programmes in a safe, warm-water environment. These sessions help participants build confidence and foundational skills before progressing — where appropriate — to open-water experiences.

This progression may include:

  • Try snorkelling or Try dive sessions in the pool
  • Moving on to open-water snorkelling in iconic local locations such as the Pollock Holes
  • Further training with specialist providers, including Oceanlife Dive Centre

Several members of our team have followed this pathway:

  • One progressed through our programmes to become a qualified lifeguard training instructor, now training others.
  • Another began with pool-based taster sessions, progressed to open-water training, and went on to qualify as a commercial diver with BIM at just 19 years of age.

These outcomes are not guaranteed — but they are real. They reflect what can happen when confidence, opportunity and strong local collaboration come together.

Progression opportunities are offered in partnership with local providers and are always subject to age, ability, environmental conditions and safety considerations.

A seasonal gateway to the ocean

Open during the warmer months, Kilkee Waterworld acts as a gateway to the ocean, helping people develop confidence, respect and awareness of the water that defines this coastline.

From family fun swims to lifesaving, snorkelling and diving pathways, we connect visitors and locals alike to the marine environment that makes West Clare so special.

Rooted in community, powered by tourism

Tourism plays a vital role in sustaining Kilkee Waterworld. Our seasonal opening allows us to:

  • Support local employment and youth development
  • Invest in training and progression pathways
  • Provide a high-quality family attraction for Kilkee and West Clare

In return, we offer something that can’t be replicated — a genuine West Clare welcome, delivered by people who are proud of where they’re from and happy to share it.

What Our
Visitors Say

Came here recently with my family and I have to say we had a wonderful time! The facility was clean and well kept. Plenty of Lifeguards watching the pool and on the slide. Will be returning!!

Padraig

Very nice pool. Reasonably priced. Very nice and helpful staff. The perfect place to pass a rainy day with kids

Roisin K

The weather in Ireland in August was unseasonably cold and windy during our visit. This water park have our 2 year old a wonderful fun filled afternoon when the beach was not an option. There is one very fun water slide that she was able to ride with an adult. The wave pool was also a great time for her. The water was a good temperature. One of the best things about this place is that while you're in inside Waterworld, you can look outside the huge glass windows and see the beach.

Chuck

Children will love it , and a safe place for them, the staff are great and very friendly. and right beside the sea and golf club and lovely walks.

Madeline
